First-time lottery player wins big with scratch card
Massachusetts resident Midoriko-Mariam Takeuchi was simply going to the store to use the ATM. She happened to notice a new holiday scratch ticket on display and just decided to buy one.
The lucky $10 “$2,500,000 Holiday Magic” ticket turned out to be a winning one worth $1 million. Not bad going for a first-time lottery player.
Can you imagine what that would feel like? Especially as she didn’t even intend to play. Rather than taking the lump sum, Takeuchi chose the annuity option. This means that she will get 20 annual payments of $50,000, less taxes.
She said she plans to use some of the money to pay down her student loan.
I wonder if her option to take the annual payments rather than the lump sum is because she is not a seasoned lottery player? What would you do?
