34-year-old Mark Tyson and his 27-year-old fiancé Jenna O’Hagan won the top prize of £100,000 on the Super Cash Bonus Lottery Scratch Card, on Saturday 18th July.
Now the dream wedding they have been planning and saving for can finally happen courtesy of the jackpot win.
Mark said: “We got engaged in December and have been saving up for our wedding ever since. Between us, we have a big family and we wanted them all to be there to celebrate with us which was limiting the venues we could choose from. Now that we don’t have to worry about the cost, we can start planning our dream wedding.”
It was a doubly lucky day for Mark who had had a successful job interview to join the Police Specials earlier in the afternoon and had decided that he would purchase a lottery scratch card as a form of celebration for the successful interview.
However, because the interview was in Exeter and he and Jenna had to rush back to Newquay to meet the family, the card remained forgotten in his wallet until 11 pm that night.
“We had so much going on, I just forgot about it”, Mark said.
“When I remembered and discovered that I’d won £100,000, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It didn’t seem real and I actually burst into tears.
“We’ve always had to work hard and scrimp and save but this win just takes all the pressure off for us. It is completely life-changing.”
Mark is originally from Southport and Jenna is originally from Halifax. They both live and work in Newquay.
As well as paying for their wedding, the couple plans to give away some of their winnings to family and their favourite charity and also hope to buy a home together.
Mark and Jenna’s winning Super Cash Bonus Lottery Scratchcard was bought at Langmaids News, Fore Street, Exeter.
