A Police officer has struck gold after winning the Lottery with a lucky dip.
Brighton PO Stuart Block walked away with nearly £60,000 in the National Lottery Lotto draw after trying his luck with a random selection of numbers.
In his words “I was just in bed getting ready for work and got a message about the winning ticket. I thought, should I open it later and imagine what I had won? “
“But curiosity got the better of me. When I read it I wondered if I was actually awake.”
It turned out Mr. Block matched five numbers and the bonus ball in the Lotto draw on Wednesday, May 27, to win £59,128. The numbers were selected using the Lottery services lucky dip which led to this officer winning the lottery.
The plan now for the 37-year-old policeman is to take his first step on to the property ladder.
He said: “It’s a life-changing amount to win even if it’s not massive – either way, it makes a difference.”
Currently single, he does not know yet whether he will take his flat-mate with him to his new city pad, though his golden Labrador Harry will join him.
Originally from Hampshire, he went to school in Crawley before moving to Brighton 15 years ago for his job.
His family lives in Poole, Dorset, and Mr. Block said they were “over the moon” with winning the lottery.
He added: “There will be some treats in there – may be a holiday.”
After discovering his win the morning after the draw, he went straight to Lewes for work as usual.
“I sat down with my colleagues and said I’m going to have to tell you about this email. “
“They were incredibly excited – more excited than me because I was in a real state of shock.”
“Everyone at work was really happy. I had to buy everyone cream cakes, which is a traditional forfeit. It’s a step up from doughnuts. “
“I’m lucky that I enjoy my job.”
He also added: “The Lottery does a lot of good for charity. You might be in with a chance but it goes to good causes anyway.” Even without winning the lottery your money is going towards a good cause.
